How this calculator works

Move-in proration charges from the move-in day through the last day of the month, inclusive. Move-out proration charges from the 1st through the move-out day, inclusive.

Actual-days divides rent by the days in that month. 30-day divides by 30 and charges at most 30 days. 365-day uses rent × 12 ÷ 365 as the daily rate.

Results are capped at one full month's rent.

Assumptions & limits

  • Both the move-in day and the move-out day are counted as occupied days. Your lease may specify otherwise.

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate prorated rent?

Divide the monthly rent by the number of days in the month (or 30, or use an annual daily rate), then multiply by the number of days the tenant occupies the unit that month.

Is the move-in day included in prorated rent?

Usually yes. This calculator counts the move-in day (and the move-out day) as charged days. Follow your lease if it says otherwise.
